The U.S. Coast Guard was using a helicopter out of Atlantic City and a C-130 cargo plane out of North Carolina to assist in the search off of Point Pleasant, the Coast Guard said on Friday, Sept. 15. A 47-foot motor lifeboat from Manasquan Inlet also was searching the waters.
Point Pleasant police were called at 8:13 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 14 about a boat that capsized in the inlet due to a large wave, said Petty Officer Kimberly Reaves, a Coast Guard spokeswoman.
Point Pleasant police rescued two people who had been on board, she said.
A search continued Friday morning for the third boater.
There was an unconfirmed report that divers were called off the search Thursday night due to the currents whipped up by Hurricane Lee which is hundreds of miles offshore.
"The water conditions are rough because of the passing hurricane," Reaves said.
